Frigiliana

In Malaga, there is a small mountain town called Frigiliana. Most of the homes are built in the traditional Andalucian style, and even the narrow streets are whitewashed. Frigiliana is the perfect place to stroll from spot to spot, keeping an eye out for the tiled signs explaining the history of the town. Ctra Circunvalacion is the heart of this small town, and it is where you can shop for food, souvenirs or the handicrafts sold weekly at the Thursday market. From the overlooking balcony at Ctra Circunvalacion, there is an excellent view over the countryside towards the sea at Nerja.

Formentera

Everyone visiting Ibiza should consider catching a ferry to Formentera, off the island’s south coast. Formentera has an ambience and appearance a world away from most Mediterranean destinations. Firstly the beaches (Playa de Ses Illetes, Calo des Mort) look almost tropical, like the kind you’d find in the Caribbean, with turquoise waters and sugar-white sand. To get about Formentera’s unspoiled interior you can hire a bike for the day and then be free to set off along dusty tracks that snake through little whitewashed hamlets. As you go you’ll never be more than a few hundred metres from the coast and another immaculate sandy beach.
